2012 TEC Congress
August 3-5, 2012
So... what is a TEC Congress? Simply put, a TEC Congress is an opportunity for members of the TEC family from around the country and even from around the world to come together and build community. It is a chance to meet some amazing people. It is an opportunity to grow in your faith and journey deeper into the Paschal Mystery.
Who is it for? YOU! It doesn’t matter if you’re new to TEC or have been around forever.
What happens at a Congress? You'll meet new people, you'll hear some keynote meditations, you’ll be able to attend workshops, you’ll hear terms like “hoot” and “candidate” and wonderwhat they’re talking about. You’ll be able to hear other peoples stories about their TECs anddiscover that if a TEC Center does something a bit differently, it is still the Holy Spirit at work, touching hearts and changing lives.
What is this year's theme?
Riverbend TEC in the diocese of New Ulm, MN has chosen the theme “Tending the Vine” based on Chapter 15 of John’s Gospel. Here Jesus tells us: I am the vine, you are the branches, abide in me and you will bear much fruit. In this analogy, God is the vinegrower, pruning the vine, and Jesus, of course, is the vine which each of our branches is connected to. This year’s Congress will help participants reflect on the ways in which God may be pruning both their TEC communities and also themselves and how they may be working with or against God’s pruning.
We are also excited to be offering the very first Congress in which we will have separate “tracks” that cater to the individual interests people have in attending the Congress. Three of the most popular pieces of feedback we get from prior Congress participants are: 1) How do we involve youth and young adults in the Congress and our TEC Communities back home? 2) How do we recruit candidates to TEC? And 3) What the heck is TAP!? TAP is the TEC Ambassadors Program, and was conceived to teach participants how to evangelize to TEC. This year’s participants will have the opportunity to invite their youth, young adult, and yes, even adult leaders to attend the 2012 TEC Congress as a participant on the “TAP track” of our Congress. Our schedules will run concurrently and will provide the opportunity to address these three commonly asked questions.
